Playrooms School Guide (2026): Lockers and the Gym

A Playrooms School guide for 2026 covering the locker bursts, the missing-ball bug, the gym route and the fastest way to fill the School pit.

Last Updated: 2026-11-05

Quick answer: The Playrooms School is a large yellow schoolhouse with classrooms, red lockers and a gym. Open lockers with empty hands, clear the classrooms first and save the gym for last. If a locker burst produces too few balls, your hands were full; reload the save to respawn the locker contents.

The School layout

The School is the biggest interior in the game. It has:

  • A main corridor with red lockers on both sides.
  • Several classrooms with desks, chairs and cabinets.
  • A gym with a high ceiling and a long floor.
  • A pit, usually on the main floor near the entrance.

The achievements are "Back to School" for entering and "Clean School" for filling the pit. There is no achievement for the gym or the lockers, but the lockers are the room's main source of balls and its main source of bugs.

How the lockers work

Most lockers are static and hold a few balls. Some are loaded: when you open them, a burst of balls spills out. The burst is the fastest way to fill the School pit, and it is also where the capacity bug happens.

The bug: if your hands are full when a locker bursts, the game can spawn fewer balls than intended. The locker still counts as opened, so the missing balls do not come back. The result is a School pit that cannot be filled no matter how thoroughly you clean.

The fix is prevention:

  • Empty your hands before opening a locker. Deliver first, then open.
  • Open one locker at a time. Do not chain them.
  • Step back after opening. The burst has physics and can push balls under furniture.

If you have already hit the bug, reload from the main menu and continue. The locker contents respawn, and the pit progress is preserved. This is the only reliable fix; the in-game reset does not always restore the missing balls.

Empty hands before every locker

The capacity bug is the single most common reason a School pit gets stuck. Deliver first. It costs one trip and saves a reload.

School route

The School is big enough that a route matters:

  1. Entrance and main corridor. Clear the floor and the first row of lockers.
  2. Classrooms, one at a time. Clear desks, chairs, cabinets and the space behind the teacher's desk. Deliver between rooms.
  3. Remaining lockers. Open them with empty hands, one at a time.
  4. Gym. Clear the floor, the bleachers and the equipment storage.
  5. Final sweep. Check the pit lip, the corridor ends and the classroom corners.

The gym is last because it is the longest walk from the pit and the lowest-density area. Clearing it early means walking back with a partial load.

The gym

The gym has a high ceiling, a polished floor and a lot of open space. The balls collect along the walls, under the bleachers and behind the equipment. The high ceiling is mostly decorative; the balls do not spawn on the roof, but the light fixtures can hold a few.

The gym is also the best place to see the game's lighting. When the lights fail in the gym, the space goes completely black except for your flashlight. Keep the beam on the floor and follow the wall to the exit.

School and sparrows

The School is a good sparrow room because it has so many small hiding places: lockers, cabinets, the top of the gym storage, the space behind the teacher's desk. The birds chirp when you are close, so a quiet pass through each classroom is more effective than a sprint.

Do not open every locker looking for a sparrow on a first run. Clear the pit, finish the room and come back for collectibles if you are completing the game.

The last balls in the School

The School tail is usually in one of these places:

  • Under the desks, especially the ones against the wall.
  • Behind the teacher's desk and inside the cabinet.
  • Inside a locker you opened with full hands (the bug).
  • Under the bleachers in the gym.
  • In the gap between the corridor wall and the floor.

The locker bug is the one that cannot be fixed by searching. If you have checked everything else and the pit is short by a burst-sized amount, reload. The stuck-ball guide→ covers the wider recovery order if a ball is visible but unreachable.

Is the School hard?

It is the longest room rather than the hardest. The layout is readable, the pit is central and there are no moving hazards beyond the dark sections. The locker bug is the only real trap, and it is preventable.

If you are speedrunning, clear the corridor, the first classrooms and the gym, and skip the deep locker checks. If you are completing, budget two passes: one for the pit and one for the sparrows.

FAQ

Why are balls missing after opening a School locker in Playrooms? The locker spawned a burst while your hands were full. Reload from the main menu; the locker contents respawn and the pit progress is kept.

How do you fill the School pit fast? Clear the corridor and classrooms, open the loaded lockers with empty hands, then clear the gym.

Is the gym required? Yes, if you want the pit full. It is the lowest-density area, so clear it last.

Are there sparrows in the School? Yes. Check the lockers, cabinets, the teacher's desk and the gym storage.

Why is the School so dark? The room has blackout sections like the rest of the game. Keep the flashlight and follow the wall.
